Kuriositas: Fly Geyser – Not Quite of this World

They look as if they were taken on another planet, or at least on the set of a new and very expensive science fiction movie. Yet these pictures are of the Fly Geyser which is very much of planet earth even though – and herein lies the surprise – it is effectively man made.

The geyser can be found in Hualapai Valley near Gerlach. It is a little seen phenomenon as the land upon which it sits is private. It can be seen from State Road 34 but unless you have permission the view from a distance is all you should attempt.

A great set of pics.  Even man can create something beautiful by accident.  Enjoy ...

The Polite Way To Pee

During one of her daily classes, a teacher trying to teach good manners, asked her students the following question:

“Michael, if you were on a date having dinner with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom?”

Michael said, “Just a minute I have to go pee.” The teacher responded by saying, “That would be rude and impolite. What about you Sherman, how would you say it?”

Sherman said, “I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”

“That’s better, but it’s still not very nice to say the word bathroom at the dinner table. And you, little Edward, can you use your brain for once and show us your good manners?”

“I would say, ‘Darling, may I please be excused for a moment? I have to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, who I hope to introduce you to after dinner.’”

The teacher fainted…

Video: BMW subliminal ad burns logo onto your eyelids

From autoblog.com

How far is this from having the ads at eye-level in a pubic urinal?

BMW recently created a special video advertisement, and those that viewed it had no choice but to remember it. Huh?

It was shown at a movie theater in Germany and left viewers with an image of the BMW logo imprinted on the back of their eyelids. How did they do that?

When you look at the sun and then close your eyes you see a circular dot as if projected on the back of your eyelids. BMW used the same technique, using a large Profoto Pro-7B flash unit, a big version of the flash utilized on digital cameras. In front of the flash device was a hollowed out BMW logo. The audience couldn't see it as it sat behind the screen they were viewing the advert on.

During the ad, the motorcycle driver tells the audience to close their eyes. For those that followed his directions, they saw the BMW logo with their eyes closed. As far as we're aware, there have been no big complaints yet of taking subliminal advertising to new heights. But the people who saw the ad also reported seeing a lot of genitalia images in the ice of every liquor ad they saw the same day...

Makes you wonder if this has been done before in a movie, or such.  A little Psy-Ops? ...

Russia's Putin says wind turbines kill birds

KHABAROVSK, Russia |
Mon Dec 6, 2010 9:43am EST

Putin, who has overseen all major energy deals Russia made in recent years, is keen for the country to maintain its role as a major oil and gas producer. He has repeatedly expressed his skepticism about alternative energy.

"Windmills, which are so widespread in many European countries seem to be an environmentally friendly kind (of energy), but in fact they kill birds," Putin told a conference of his United Russia party in the Far East.

"Vibration there is such that worms come out of the ground, not to mention moles. This is a real environmental problem," he said, adding that solar energy was the only alternative source that was entirely harmless.

Renewable energy accounts for only 1 percent of all power generated in Russia, but under a plan backed by President Dmitry Medvedev, Putin's partner in Russia's ruling tandem, this share should grow to 4.5 percent by 2020.

Germany's Siemens plans to create a joint venture with Russian power firm RusHydro and state holding firm Russian Technologies to develop windmill parks able to produce 5 gigawatts by 2020.

Atomenergomash, a unit of state nuclear power holding Rosatom, announced similar plans and said the company was looking for an international partner, estimating the potential share of wind in Russian power generation at 5 to 10 percent.

Atomenergomash said wind power generation would become profitable in Russia after the government introduced incentives for producers.

Medvedev in May asked the government to draft proposals on mandatory purchases of energy generated from renewable sources at market prices rather than at state-regulated tariffs. There has been no response from the government to date on the proposal.

Putin complained that European and U.S. makers of equipment generating energy from alternative sources were pushing their products at the expense of Russian manufacturers.

However, he expressed support for Icelandic companies' plans to develop geothermal energy on Russia's Kamchatka peninsula, home to Eurasia's only geyser valley.

With electronic contact lenses, bionic eyesight could become reality

A new generation of contact lenses built with tiny circuits and LEDs could make bionic eyesight a reality.

Researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle have created contact lenses with built-in electronics and an LED, powered wirelessly by RF.

“These lenses don’t give us the vision of an eagle or the benefit of running subtitles on our surroundings yet,” University of Washington professor Babak Parviz writes in IEEE Spectrum. “What we’ve done so far barely hints at what will soon be possible with this technology.” ...

Amazing Scanning Electron Microscope Pictures

All these pictures are from the book Microcosmos, created by Brandon Brill from London. This book includes many scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of insects, human body parts and household items.

These are the most amazing images of what is too small to see with the naked eye.
